How to Adjust Multico Planer Bed?

Hi Folks

Have recently purchased this Multico S/1 Planer and can't work out how to adjust the beds to make it a flat surface. Both beds are angled downwards away from the cutters so not much use for planing. On the side of the beds I can see grease nipples. Each bed moves up and down by the wheel pictured acting on 2 pairs of cam shaped pivots linked by rods. I can't see how 1 pivot could be adjusted independent of the other one to change the angle of the bed.

Anyone know how to make the adjustment?

Hello Wheesht,

Can you remove the base brackets that bolt to the main frame ? (from the end they are L shape with the pivot pins)
If so you could shim these up using Flute pad washers, they come in various sizes of thou.
It would be a bit fiddly and time consuming but well worth the effort and it would be accurate.
I have got a Multico CPT planer thicknesser and although the bed system is different I adjusted it this way, when I bought it the beds were out of alignment and were all gummed up, it took a good few hours but now it works a treat.
The washers are available in a selection pack of 100 from Wind plus ltd (FPWS20).
I have since used some washers setting up different machines so for about £4 so money well spent.

I'll look in from underneath to see if I can remove the base brackets tomorrow.

I had a Multico surface planer many years ago and had to reset the beds, each bed had asymmetric bushes on the rods that are seen below the grease nipples. Not sure if yours may have the same.

The only planer I have ever owned that didn't have some adjustment was an old Wadkin which I did have to shim.

I could not identify asymmetric bushes in my machine. The lower rods link the planer base, through the lower end of pivot point, through the planer bed on each side. Nowhere can I see how to make any alteration in it's setting - the points where the rod passes through are all circular and fit snugly, can see no bushes.

Further to Merlin's suggestion, the base brackets are welded to the frame so can't be shimmed.

Argggh!

Have you tried Scott and Sargeant,or Rondean for any manuals, I googled multico planer,and that's some of what popped up.
You may have already done this.

Thanks for your suggestion Rodders, unfortunately neither Multico (now based in France), Scott and S nor Rondean have a manual for this machine, it's too old apparently.

I'm holding out for someone who knows this model !

Just bought a multico L1 planer and have precisely the same problem - infeed and outfeed both fall away from blades and I can't find a way to adjust them.

Did you find a solution in the end?

I'm afraid not. It sits in the corner of my workshop and when I can next get to it I'm going to fork it into the scrap metal pile

Beds falling away is so common there must be a way to align( read my post about setting up a nearly new machine.!) If it's just a planer I'd look for places to shim. If it's a p/t I'd still look for places to shim but a bit trickier.

Try to shim the yokes out(near the rise and fall handles) look like 4 bolts attached to the main body. I can't see it all really but this may be due to wear in the threads. Once you strip it down a bit a solution will present!
