Well not exactly died to be honest.

However today I went to change a cutter and noticed that once I released the spindle lock the spindle would not turn freehand. So I cleaned the collect etc but still not movement when the lock released.

So does anybody know what the possible cause of this could be and if it is repairable?

If it can be repaired where in Devon would do this please?

I really need to use it asap!

Check the lock is fully off. I used to have a 96e years ago it used to have problems with the spindle lock. I had to change the whole part and then it broke again so I just removed the whole part and just used two spanners to change cutters. If you remove the two screws at the bottom the cover comes off, inside is a metal slide a spring and the blue push button just check its not jammed.

If its not that then I suppose you've got a bearing problem.

Bearings on these models do seize up instantly even if you have been using it only hours earlier
You will be suprised how quiet it is after replacing them
Its not difficult if you have a good set of tools and a bearing puller to replace them and are methodical and write down wiring details
I can do them in about 15 mins now after having done about 10 of them

Firstly do you think what I have described is a bearing problem or something else?

As I don't have a bearing puller what are my options? Not sure what you would call a good set of tools as mine are mostly for woodwork not mechanics / engineering?

Well if its not the spindle lock which is quite easy to see if its on then it can really only be the bearings... Does it run under power ? You said you couldn't spin it by hand... It could be catastrophic failure of the brushes but that would be rare... I,m sure it will be a bearing.
I can do the job with new bearings for say £ 20 but post to me would be 5£ each way and some time lost... But they are really good routers as you know

Thanks for the kind offer Ian. I can get a company in Exeter to do a free estimate of cost of repair. As I have to go to Exeter anyway in the next few days I will get them to check it first and see what they say.

Thank again.
