Hardwood suppliers between Bristol and Reading?

Folks,

I may be missing a thread, but searching didn't find anything...

Any recommendations for good suppliers of hardwoods? By 'good' I don't mean 'cheapest', but people who have given you what you asked for, at a fair price, without any hidden nastys.

Preferably between Bristol and Reading (M4 corridor)...

Have I missed a sticky somewhere?

I have - about 2 that are both UK and hardwood, and they're 'oop north' - any others? (assuming we're talking the 'links' in the tool bar at top right)

I think the idea is that you spend all of your time researching and never actually have any time to buy some wood.

Up the proverbial creek
Shady, it helped to know that Chris' list existed in the first place. So "timber suppliers" and "waterhead37" as author found it eventually.

Cheers, Alf

Thx - now I don't feel too stupid..Is it worth an equivalent to the 'tool suppliers' sticky under general woodworking for newcomers? Would have stopped me bothering everyone...

OK: gimme a day or two: I was just really thinking of something like your post for starters, with people adding when they find a good supplier.

Shady,
Its pretty new. has been available in the USA for a few weeks and here for a day or two. The satellite feature is neat but at present the available imagery is too low a resolution to be useful. However for some areas in the States it's amazing.

Do try the directions buttons however; you get a super marked-up map and text directions to where you want to go.

Chas - outstanding link: thanks. Alf - might I suggest this gets 'stickied' or pointed to somewhere? With additional comment from board members, it could be a great resource...

Chas, a great link. No doubt folk will suggest adding suppliers in due course. Panels/sheet goods are often sought by people here and there is a group of specialist suppliers that could be added, veneer suppliers too perhaps? One does not want to overload it with everything but then one would have the "woody" stuff in one place.

Thanks Chris (&Shady) Will add whatever the majority want.

Any advantage in separately linked sheets for specific specialities such as Veneer, Panels etc. Are there enough in any one category?

I'd suggest keeping it simple: as a 'bear of little brain', I'd like a single link to 'wood'. Within that, of course, there's nothing to stop a rational layout (softwood/hardwood, sheet goods, veneer, turners blanks, are the sort of sub categories that come to mind) (the other aspect that comes to mind is the 'scale' of the operation: are they aimed at buying 3 container loads of imported flooring, or a single turning blank?)

It would also be nice to include a 'comments/feedback' bit: forum members could comment/praise/damn as experience suggests...
