Hi,

When it comes to flush casement window frame section sizes.

Casements will be 58mm to accommodate 24mm units.

What is the norm for a section size of frame members taking into consideration a ovolo moulding on the frame and the 58mm+(1mm) rebate for casements?

Thanks in advance

We do 94 x 58 jambs, 94 x 72 mullions, 94 x 72 bottom (plant on cill) 94 x 58 head (94 x 68 if trickle vent).

Bottom section has check rebate for flush high performance on friction stays

all for 18mm x 65mm rebate (58mm sash, 7mm for weatherseal) that leaves 29mm for moulding. mortice is in rebate

Be careful to have enough flat on moulding section if you are having casement stays

You could look at Whitehill for their section sizes.

We use Accoya wood sections, and in old English, the 21/2"x5" is fine for heads and Jambs, and 3"x5" for cills. If a projecting cill is required we do it as an add on.

Thanks Robin that is a great help. Out of interest what dimensions do you make the casement components i.e. Stiles, Tp/Btm rails. Glazing bars will be plant on.

Not sure accoya is in the budget

Sash stile 70mm, head 70mm, bot rail mm on large orangery casements

We do 60mm stiles and head with 90 bottom on house windows -generally slimmer is better for replacement work.

60mm is the smallest we can do with our window espag -if you are using cockspur window fastener then a narrower stile is poss

Hi Robin,

You mention a check rebate, can you explain what you actually mean by a check rebate please? It's just a new one on me. I mat know it as something else

To accomodate a friction stay, the bottom of our window has a flat rebate not sloping. So that water does not sit on the flat section, an additional rebate with slope is rebated near the front edge. The sash is shaped to cover it. The frame and sash have drip grooves machined just in front of this sloping rebate........which is what Im calling a check rebate :D

I think box sashes have a similar named rebate
