I have a supply of cheap 18mm plywood (spruce I think) that I'm using for workshop cabinets. It is stark white in colour and shows every mark when using. I'd like to tone it down on the finished article but wood stains look patchy and nasty on completion. Anyone got any ideas on a broad application finish for this kind of material, just to take away the glare and look more natural? Please bear in mind these are large pieces, so economy is desirable (I'm not finishing my mitre saw cab unit with 5 litres of Ren Wax). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
