Hi has anyone used EasyScribe http://www.easyscribe.co.uk/ ?

What did you think of it or are there better products on the market and if so which?

Yes I have tried that. However I cannot find one that locks securely!

And if you look at the video you will see that the EasyScribe seems to make door fitting easier which I don't think you could do with a compass and pencil?

It looks like the type of tool that would pay for itself quickly if you were scribing every day in your job.

Hi Charlie
Normally i would just scribe free hand using finger like so.

If scribing a door in i use these glazing packers.

I always carry a pair of dividers in my box and sometimes will use these .You dont need to to spend any money on gadgets there is always a cheaper way .Also dont have to search in the tool box to find my finger and the pencil is usually behind the ear.

I sometimes use a washer, just put pencil in the hole and roll it round the object to be scribed.

It's quite neat though. But it has 2 major drawbacks IMHO. Price :shock: , and second; special pencil leads. These are going to let you down at some point by being unavailable, maybe just because you forgot to stick one in your box. They should have just stuck on a pencil (available everywhere) as per old fashioned compasses, but then it'd look just like a pair of old fashioned compasses and nobody would buy it.
I give it 1 out of 10.

These things are always too expensive for what they are. You wouldn't mind if it was £10-£15 but £25 is just too much. Just like all the other scribing devices. I will stick with me pencil and a packer.

Sorry Charlie, should have said that I use something like that Faithful version, with the same kind of locking arrangement, not that particular one.

It's just a compass, nothing much to go wrong I wouldn't think.

The tool looks well thought out, and well made.

It is rather expensive for the advantage it offers over simpler approaches.

We used one of these (see link below) when i was an apprentice. The long point makes it much more useful and accurate. I bet you could pick one up for a few pence at a car boot sale. They are pretty redundant things now though as most scribes are cut via a mitre from a chop saw.. maybe useful for a few occasions though, such as scribing skirting to uneven floors etc.

I do loads of scribing, generally I use one of these which looks like a cheap compass at first glance but because the back is flat you can hold it flat on the wall with two fingers. I have found this to be the most accurate FOR ME.

Yours looks like a nice tool and probably better than the one I linked to, I think the led thing that Jacob referred to is true and I think it probably looks a bit desirable to leave around on site.

Yep that's what I used to use. Looks better but it isn't, sometimes stuff that looks better quality and better made isn't as good as the cheap plastic alternative.
