Evening chaps and chapetts.

Im looking for a dry lubricant (something with will repel sawdust etc) for the mechanical/moving components of my various tools/machines.

I am looking for something which categorically states "dry lubricant" on the can but I am finding many labelled as "PTFE lubricants".

Through the research ive done, it is sounding to me like PTFE is a dry lubricant....or is the same thing as dry lubricant.

Am i right....is Dry Lube/PTFE lube one and the same thing?

Does anyone use a dry lube they can reccomend?

Please advise.

Thanks gang.

PolyTetraFlouroEthylene is marketed under the trade name Teflon.

It's the same stuff that's used to coat non-stick saucepans.

The dry lubes contain powdered PTFE in some sort of volatile suspension which evaporates off after spraying. It's good because it's dry so doesn't collect sawdust, but it does wear off and it can deposit PTFE on your wood, which may effect subsequent coatings.

I use GT85 - which is ptfe in a liquid spray. Basically spray the componets to lubricate which covers the components - the liquid rapidly evaporates and leaves the surface covered with a dry ptfe coating. This lubricates well and does not cause sawdust etc to stick to the surface (as would an oily lubricant).

So it doesnt neccessarily have to say the word "dry" on the can just as long as its got this PTFE stuff on it. Is this right.

I've always got mine off Ebay - something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GT85-PTFE-Cha ... 2c6b696082

I always go for the hand spray as I think aeerosols are wasteful. Also, the 1 litre bottle lasts for ages.
