I have been asked in the past and now if I would be able to make this style of door. The doors that I have been asked if I could construct have a wide outside stile (hinge side and a very thin stile on the meeting stile so that the horizontal boards near enough go across the whole width of the door bar the stile on the hinge side and the glass panel that they would like (back and front of door to look the same).

I know that there could be a degree of movement in this style of door so I was going to suggest using Accoya. Door will be painted.

Can anyone shed any light on the construction of these doors or are they more of a specialised thing?

Thanks in advance

seen similar doors made with a torsion box frame in the middle to keep it stable also can fill with insulation. solid stiles, could be 70 to 80 mm thick.

These doors are 56mm or 65mm thickness I think. Have you a diagram of what you mean by torsion bar frame please? Im guessing that they are more of a specialist thing?

If it is to be painted you have the option of tricoya panels, V grooved for the t and g effect.

You could make a conventional, say 40mm core, mortice and tenoned, then plant 9mm tricoya on each side. Solid timber edge lippings, tricoya is too soft for a door edge. Celetex insulation in the gaps. Hockey stick for glazing and maybe projection bead instead of hockey stick for bottom bead.

I think they are "fake" doors - basically solid (ply, chipboard, blockboard etc) or hollow (frame with ply facings etc) then faced with finishing hardwood. "Torsion box" is just a popular name for a box construction.

PS I meant to add - they may be ex catalogue - if you can find the source you might do better to buy them in rather than making them (or something like them).

I can't view those Dropbox pics on Tapatalk for some reason but if it's like Murdoch s door above then I fitted one about 7 years ago. It was just a solid plywood core with T&G on either side and edging all round.
