I notice people asking about the limitations of the Myford ML8. I use mine a lot and it is pretty reliable for small work.
I enclose a picture of an almost finished 20cm bowl being turned inboard. Another cm and I'd have had to change the insert on my chuck and move it outboard. It is a little frustrating at times.

Lovely bit of work there mate. As a fellow ML8 user I feel your pain.
I managed to shatter the outboard tool rest, so made one from steel bar. I can now turn slightly larger stuff outboard if needs be. It's quite scary though.
I think that I will start working towards upgrading my lathe next year. Although the ML8 is still good enough, it is starting to show signs of wear & tear thanks to my early fumbling.
