My lathe is a Coronet Elf.

I've acquired this chuck (unknown manufacturer) which is 3 3/4" in diameter and weighs 2.6kg - 5lb 12oz.

This feels very heavy, is it too heavy for my Elf?

According to Biven Machinery a record SC4 chuck kit weighs 2.5kg, so allowing a bit for a plastic case and T bar yours isn't too far over that.
Looks like the Elf can swing a 14 inch blank outboard so I don't think it'll have any trouble

Centrifugal force takes over once the wood is rotating. The weight of the chuck & wood when stationary is not important.
