What's the best finish to use on chess pieces, bearing in mind that they'll be subjected to a lot of handling?

Thanks Andrew :) . I've just got another 16 pieces to cut then I'll be in action.

I agree with Andrew, in fact any of our lacquers would be suitable for this, depending on what sort of finish you want. The aerosol versions lend themselves to items like this very well.
The Ebonising Lacquer could also be useful for the black pieces if you need to colour them.
