Last time i used my bandsaw (Record RSBS14) it went bang and stopped. One of the tyres had failed and wrapped around the top wheel. I took it out and left it in the bottom cabinet and today went to clean out my bandsaw and noticed it was the bottom one that had snapped and must have shot up to the top. Never noticed before but the bottom wheel has a groove in it the width of the tyre, unlike the top wheel which doesn't but i am presuming that the top and bottom tyres are the same size/type?

Also, seeing as the tyre had just snapped but is generally ok, could i just glue it to the bottom wheel with spray glue or somesuch, or is that asking for trouble when i need to replace it in the future? They are £20 for a poxy bit of rubber. At least they were on the site i looked at. I'm probably going to get the urethane ones from the American site on ebay eventually but need to use the bandsaw fairly soon and i imagine they take a while to arrive. Unless anyone knows another solution?

I's best to try and get the same type of tyres and only in pairs, do not mix, as this may cause problems. You should be able to get a pair from Record quickly.

Rather unusual for the tyre to go, but how old is the machine? Make sure to do a good 'set up' when iy's back in running order so that it shouldn't happen again.

Thanks for that. The bandsaw has not been used for a long time and i spent a couple of hours doing the 'set up' you suggested, before switching on and proceeding to cut some timber. All was going great until the tyre snapped, so i suspect it had just perished from being left in a cold workshop over a long period with no action. The top tyre seems sound.

This was a few weeks back and i have just gotten round to sorting the problem. Was shocked to discover that 2 tyres are £40 as there is not a lot to them. I decided to get the urethane ones from USA that people have recommended on this site but will need to use the saw before i get them, so was wondering if i could repair it temporarily. I suppose sticking it on with glue wouldn't be a good idea though.

I never really understood this- why is it important to do them in pairs- surely a wheel is balanced or it is not?
