Just a question, if I may??
I have just finished a marquetry picture and was wondering the best finish to use to accentuate the grain.
This project has only two coloured veneers, which are Poplar and Walnut.
In the past I have bulit up the finish to produce a mirror like effect, using different products, but I intend to frame my current project, so I dont think I really need to go to all that trouble.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks in advance,
Simon

a few coats of shellac would do fine or some oil if you're not after a high gloss

Thanks very much Droogs,
I opted for sanding sealer and carnuba gunstock wax.

Thanks again

Simon

Post a photo Simon.

I haven't done any for quite a while but always favoured a satin finish as I felt high gloss reflects too much detracts from the work'

Bob

As requested by bob I have posted a couple of photos.
I am only a beginner, having only done half a dozen Marquetry projects, and am quite insecure regarding the quality of workmanship.
I had a picture that was waiting to be finished (Alice in Wonderland), and after seeing the result of the picture I posted the question about (Tiger. I 'borrowed' the image from Google), decided to use the same finishing technique, and was very happy with the result.

Any input or advice (good or bad) will be greatly appreciated,

I dont get offended easily :D

Simon
