Anyone had an email through from "http://www.bargainbobs.co.uk/"

Looks like spam to me.

As it's selling FERM gear I wondered if it was a Screwfix -business.....

Adam

Yep, arrived just now, only went to the site yesterday. :(
Must admit some of the prices are good, £8 for a digital vernier, I can leave one in a jig for setting cutter/blade heights at that price. :)

It is definitely something to do with Screwfix, as the mail I got was to an address that I've only ever used there.

Yea, I might give them a call and find out.

Maybe they are re-selling their returned products, or it might just be to get rid or end of lines/surplus stock.

>>Hmm, poor excuse......

Actually, if its a part of Screwfix, some of those prices look very good - particulary that vernier !

Mistake or deliberate marketing ploy I wonder??

Dear Adam, We have been made aware this morning (December 23rd) that a number of Screwfix Direct customers have received an e-mail from "Bargain Bob's". This was due to a processing error and we are very sorry that this has happened.

Bargain Bob's is related to Screwfix Direct and was set up as a "clearance" web site to sell overstocked and deleted Screwfix Direct products. We have made the Data Protection Office aware of this error and
will be despatching an email apology today. Again, we apologise for the
intrusion of this unexpected and unsolicited e-mail message, which was not
intended for you or any other existing Screwfix Direct customers.

As it is now illegal to send unsolicited emails to individuals within the EU, I wonder whether they will be prosecuted.

If not , it will have been a very cheap PR exercise.

Cheers
Neil

I didnt know it was illegal, I sure hope they make it illegal in USA as i'm fed up now of being offered Viagra, Porn, Money, Insurace, Photoshop, Windows XP etc.... every day      :!: :!:

Alas James, if only life was so straight forward.
As I understand it the law covers unsolicited material. If you haven't expressed an interest in the product or service offered then you have a measure of recourse by reporting the "offence" to the appropriate authority. Only problem is that most of the spam originates off shore from the US to Korea and somehow I can't see a civil servant in Whitehall pursuing a couple of blokes in a rented office in downtown Seoul.
The ironic aspect is that UK or EU spam was never a problem so this new law will not make a dot of difference. I believe, at present, spam makes up about 60% of the world's email traffic. Perhaps when it reaches 95% something will be done.
Anti spam measures such as Mailwasher and Norton help but at the end of the day it's up to the ISPs to do something.
End of rant.

Rgds

It was made illegal on Dec 1st 2003 for spam originating in the EU to be sent unless you tick a box to opt in.
America is deciding to go with the opt out solution whereby anyone accepts to receive spam unless the specifically tick not to.
Selling email addresses is big business & unfortunately cant be legislated for internationally.
It can be almost impossible to find who sold your address and to who.
Bargainbob's is owned by Screwfix to sell of overstocked or outdated products. Screwfix in turn are owned by the Kingfisher group who own amongst other things B&Q
