Another Box

Just completed the latest box made from Spalted Beech front and back, Ash sandwich with Purpleheart filling. Measures 24cm high x 12 wide and 13cm deep. Three drawers and a secret drawer in the top one and all flock lined. Hope you like it.

Look at the third photo. When the drawer is in, it cannot be seen unless the drawer is pulled out. OK

I like the shape and the execution a lot and like the purpleheart, but I'm not 100% on the ash - with spalted having such a good grain the ash looks so plain by comparison. I would maybe have dyed or ebonized the ash to compliment the spalting, but that's just my preference.

Can I ask how you did the flocking? Just glue and dust or the electro gizmo?

Hiya, thanks for your thoughts.

The flocking is the usual Turners Retreat 'Suedetex' applied with the coloured glue and then flocking. However, whenever I use the flocking on drawers that have light and dark woods, I did find earlier that sometimes this can still be noticed after flocking. Therefore, in those circumstances, I cover the wood with quick dry matt paint on top of the usual sealer before flocking. In this way the final result looks denser.
