At the car boot, a house clearance guy had a REALLY old, tatty workbench. What was interesting
was that it had a wooden screwed leg vise, on an angle. Very rare indeed.

You can better clamp a long board upright in the vice, it will clear the screw.

What's your estimate of the age of the bench BB based on seeing it in the flesh? It's certainly filthy enough to be very old!

I'd guess around 1920's, judging from the timber used, and the overall style of construction. It all looked to be made using standard PAR lumber, including some T&G. The stock was mainly 3/4" too.
