Big 09 UKW Turning Competition : Pen Winners now announced !

There is a very good standard of entry and some forum members may have been put off by that, but remember, in any competition there has to be losers. The losers are every bit as important as the winner because without the losers there IS NO competition. If all the sprinters up against Usain...

The Big 09 UKW turning comp : submissions only

This is my entry for the pens in alternative materials category. It is my 18th pen and my first high end kit I used a polyester resin blank for this kit as I had no timber blanks large enough (I didn't realise how large they were compared to a slimline) It was wet sanded with wet and dry paper...

What might I need to know to turn wooden knobs?

I bought the Perform after pricing a replacement white wheel for my standard grinder. It was going to cost £20 for a wheel or £29 for a new grinder with a white wheel fitted and a whetstone :D The Perform does everything I need and I'm very happy with it. I used ebay for tools, buy the...

    Competition entrants

I've had a lathe for about a month now, bought mainly to turn pens. I have some slimline kits and some pen blanks so I'll give it a go :D
  18. B

thinking of this lathe, opinions please..

I bought a Fox mini lathe that I had problems with, Terry at Poolewood was excellent and got a new replacement sorted quickly. so I can't fault their customer service.

    Drilling pen blanks

Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to take a pic or two and they are now out of my possesion :D That's my excuse anyway. I will endeavour to abide by forum rules for future projects though :D When I have turned 900 pens can I call myself a pen turner?

    Drilling pen blanks

Well, I managed to complete 3 pens and they've all been claimed so I must be doing something right :) Thanks for the advice, drill first turn later from now on. I need to get out and about now to gather up some wood for a few more ambitious projects. A very satisfying start to my new hobby :D
