    What people make?

I bought a narrowboat a few months ago (my first home!) Most of what I've been doing is not woodwork hence me not posting here (that and internet only arrived about a week ago.) Sick of the mess that is the kitchen at the moment, I went to Ikea  and bought some shelves- which of course...

    Painting lots of wood

I'm currently painting my kitchen which has t&g and plywood walls (it's a boat). At the moment I've applied one coat of Ronseal primer/undercoat/knotting. The grain on the ply is still quite visible...is there anything that I can apply at this stage to fill it? Thanks Charly

    Chimpin' for Britain

If this is the 'fess up' thread, I've been making a dressing table recently. Came to fit the doors and the carcasses are not square - partly because I don't have enough clamps to do what I was trying to do, mainly because I didn't have the experience to know that I needed to glue up...

    Drawer Runners (again !?)

The ones Mailee recommended to me from Ironmongery Direct are very similar to those on my roll cab/top box combination - they are really high quality.

    Kid's storage unit

I've been using a Wickes bj that Chems sold me this weekend, also very much a newb with them. Like yours, it doesn't hit dead centre - but it does have a registration mark dead centre on the side of it. This notch actually lines up with the bottom of the cut. I intend to biscuit the top on...

    blum inset hinges

Ikea are £3 a pair give or take, 120* I think.... I paid less than £5/pr from a kitchen showroom for 170* ones. There are 3 per door, triangular MDF, 5'6" x 5' on a cupboard and that's plenty.

I settled on my bench design but...

Before all my plans for a bench went to hell when I decided to move onto a boat but I had intended to cut down a couple of old crowbars....is this worth trying?

    Router advice needed

Go to here https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/rout ... 36875.html and then make your own. There are loads of plans on the web for various styles.

    Cupboard/dressing table construction

I need to source some drawer runners for a cabinet (18mm mdf). The inside depth is 360mm. The cheapest I've found is £4.99/pr for some single extensions of dubious quality. I'd quite like double extensions. Also, I bought feet along with hinges as Ikea. I cut the feet down and then had no...

    Castors that can be raised?

Trolley jack and an x beam? I have a 5'6" or so roll cab and top box which is massively heavy when loaded it that sits on castors quite happily.

    The Perfect Workshop?

A known flat surface would make me happier :)

Help - drill sizes suitable for Metric taps

 perhaps that's why my VWs were always rattly old nails. I always used 4mm for M4 and so on.

Router sub base help (Macallister 1500w)

I've been making a trammel for my router but have run into problems. The internet says that the "done" thing is to remove the plastic sub base that comes with the router and replace it with a 6mm MDF home made one. I've found that the base casting is lower around the bit so I figured that...

Is There a Market for an Open Workshop?

Definitely. In London, I really stuggle if I can't find a friend in a theatre with a quiet scene dock. I've built stuff on kitchen surfaces and with chairs for saw horses and I'm terrified that one slip will make me most unpopular with the landlord/housemate. That said, fingers crossed for...

    Electrics

Crimps are to hand and fit - why didn't I think of that  I don't touch plaster...it's witchcraft and magic that stuff and I'm always terrified that by the time I'm finished, the whole wall will need redoing!

    Electrics

I'm changing the light fittings in my bedroom for wall washer downlights. First two have gone in fine but the third is causing me a problem. The wire comes out of the wall in the centre. The wall washer needs to sit in the centre and there is little room for error as it is down from a roof...

    Pugh auction this Saturday

I now think I know who you are Localoak and my mother had her eye on that bell. Unfortunately, I didn't get the oak I was after because it was green.....one of those lumps you were talking about Roger - needed for (another) cupboard. It will be off the reclaim yard in Ciren then. I generally...
