I think the blades for the Veritas will fit the old Stanley routers but the Lie-Nielsen blades will not.

I searched through a pile of old Woodworker magazines I have that date from the late 50's and early 60's but I couldn't find any adverts or anything else that might help explain the origins of the plane.

I agree. There are a lot of planes you'd use more than a 140.

Yes, that is what I do when trimming shoulders, for cheeks I use the 140's.
