Still trying to chase down one thing left before boxes are packed. Gotta love vendors

who's on hold again--4th time this morning...

Greetings Everyone.
My first post after enjoying this forum for a long time.
Australia has a renowned planemaker who specialises in high angle planes suitable for planing Australian hardwoods and curly grain.
His name is terry Gordon, and his planes are made from a variety of beautiful timbers.
He has produced whole sets of planes made of pink ivory.
Here is one of them.

Of course, his planes don't just look good - they are outstanding tools and much sought after.
Regards
MC :) :) :)

Hi Martin,

Welcome to the forum. Your link to the picture of the HNT Gordon plane didn't work because there is an automatic spam blocker thing that prevents you posting links until you "prove yourself" by making a number of posts. I'm not sure how many posts you have to have before you can post links. Here is the picture you were trying to link to.

Welcome, Martin!

Yes, many of us are aware of Terry's wonderfully made and beautiful tools. But I hadn't seen the Pink Ivory ones--very nice!

Again, welcome to the forum and after X number of posts the links will work automatically.

Take care, Mike

.......and if you look very carefully at this illustrious collection you'll just be able to spot the very same plane on the corner of the table, right next to Phillys JK smoother - Rob

I've heard there are a few of those floating around in the wild. Looks to be a useful little pipper.

Looking at the back row of your very nice collection, what sort of plane is attached to that curvaceous tote -- between the plows & a very nice infill?

Wow, very nice!

Been looking for one for years that was a reasonable price, good condition and complete and I eventually found it - everything comes to he who waits, as they say :D

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
The choice of Pink Ivory for the bodies of planes isn't very blokey, but there is no denying the beauty of Terry Gordon's workmanship.
He has a range of other timbers that he usually crafts from. These pink planes look like a special commission to me.
Some of the other timbers that he uses are:
Ringed Gidgee
Ringed Mulga
Coolibah Burl
Bulloak
Waddy Wood
Desert Rosewood
Budgeroo Burl
Red Malley
Snakewood
Kingwood
Lignum Vitae
Rio Rosewood
Ebony

Dang, still can't post pictures yet!
Maybe next time
Regards
