Which course, Paul Sellers or Peter Sefton

Another vote for Chris Tribe, I have done a number of his courses and attended his evening classes for a couple of years now. I reckon that is the best recommendation I can give for both his courses and the evening classes. Hugh

should i just bite the bullet and get a sorby pro edge?

I bought one after looking at the other options, it does make sharpening woodturning chisels easy and I have not had any problems with handles etc. You have to be careful when using the long grind jig as it can rub on the belt if not positioned correctly. I know cheaper belts are available but...

Funiture Making Courses with Chris Tribe

I have done a few of Chris's courses and now own a superb bench, my wife has a nice two drawer jewelry box and I know a bit more about hand cutting dovetails. All this after he makes sure you can sharpen tools and use all the big machines safely. Having done courses with other people, the big...

Furniture making courses, who's done one?

I have done the Bench making course and dovetailing course at Chris Tribes workshop in Ilkley, good style of teaching , the emphasis being on understanding the techniques and getting it right. Even with mixed abilities in the groups of people I was with, all produced a really good bench, or...

Quangsheng low angle rebating block plane

Thanks for the comments, I do realise that this plane will be a bit of a compromise over a dedicated shoulder plane, something I need to think about. So many tools..........so little money Hugh

Quangsheng low angle rebating block plane

Thanks for the reply, I realise it will be a bit of a compromise but at this stage I am happy to live with that, Santa might be kind at some time in the future with a posh shoulder plane. Hugh

Quangsheng low angle rebating block plane

I am looking to add a shoulder plane to my tools but I am not in the market for a Lie nielson or Veritas at this stage, so the options seem to be the Faithful/Stanley price range or the Quangsheng low angle rebating block plane. The Quansheng is mentioned as being a shoulder plane as well as...

Anyone wanna join the 100 club ?

A 1 metre metric steel rule has been one of my best buys, I just butt it up to a set square on the end and it seems to work well.

    Making a strop

It gets worse, I asked the wife if she had any baby oil and then had to explain I wanted to put it on my leather to open the pores................................yeah right!!!!!!

    Making a strop

I have just got hold of some leather to make a sharpening strop, what is the best way of fixing the leather to the wooden backing, contact adhesive? Having never used a strop before, which side of the leather do I use, the smooth side or other? Thanks for your help Hugh

Do I need P2 or P3 respirator filter?

I have the 3M 7500 half mask and you can get the P3 respirator pads for that, they seem to be about £6 per pair. Not cheap but lees than buying a new pair of lungs. I was advised by a professional turner to go for P3, when I was doing a days training with him. Hugh

Clubs in the Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate area

Thomas, I have made contact with the secretary of the Eldwick club and if the friendly response is typical of that club, I am not going to look any further as it will suit me fine. They have a meeting on Tuesday evening next week. Hugh
