    Not Wormy Good

Hi Tom Have you thought about a glue chuck to re-mount it. I use a scrape piece of wood that I've turn to fit in my chuck that I use for turning the inside of natural edge and crouched bowls. Once I've turned to outside I place the block up against the bottom, bring the tail stock up to...

    4 jaw chuck advice

Hi xc-mtbr I have this one and have had no complaints with it. Well tell a lie, but it's more to do with my lathe, the chuck (and the one you linked to) are designed for the longer register of the 3/4" 16 tpi threaded record lathers, but mine has a much shorter one, so hand to turn...

    Shallow Textured Bowl

Hi Skeetoids Got to say I love purplehart :) the colour can be really stunning when it changes. I think that the staining purple might be a problem when the bowl turns to it's true colour in a few days, best way to get it to turn is in direct sunlight. Mark..............

Hi All So after looking at Pete's (Bodrighy) calabash I though I'd give it a go in spalted Sycamore. Sadly as I was truing the out side up and start to shape it I spotted I small crack inside the wood. So putting plan B into action I started to take away wood in the area of the crack hoping...

    Pine Bowl

Hi All Was given a big lump of pine and though I'd use some for a wide flat bowl. Sadly when I got a closer look and the board I noticed that there was a crack running down the centre :( The top didn't look like there was any so I cut a bit off and mounted it the the lathe. Finish is...

What do people use for a pen vise

I'd changed it out after doing that, although the blade wasn't that old and it cut fine. This makes me think that the blade was not creating a suitable kerf and the blade was rubbing. I suppose thats what you get for cheap blades. Mark........

What do people use for a pen vise

Hi This is what I use. Can't remember were I found the plans for it, but it was simple to do. I made it all out of an old MDF cupboard door. I've drilled all size blanks on this from 13mm square to 25mm and great for batch drilling. I hold the vice to the drill table with some...

Hi Gasmansteve It's actually very stable. I've been wondering about getting a liner for it so that I could put a pot plant in it. Loz I am very pleased with how the stem cam out and when I'd finished it and was wait for the wax to dry I had the thought. I had thought of making a pair...

    Sycamore stemmed bowl

Hi All Heres my latest turning based from here, the first on the right. I made a couple of alterations, including a longer stem to bring it into 3rds. It stands 10" tall and 6 1/4" wide, made from 3 pieces of wood. A piece of blue vernier was used to hide the glue line of the base...
