wooden wheels and axles... new projects

I've been asked to design and create a range of kiddies toys. These need to be solid wood, painted and have wooden wheels. I've never used this type of wooden wheel and axle pegs before so I was seeking some advice. How do I fix the wheels/axles to the body of the toy?

Not sure if I need to glue them in or what?

Easier to glue them than to fox wedge.

Yes, if the hole is a tight fit you need to cut a few small grooves in the end of the axle, or you won't get any excess glue out - or the axle in, come to that.
