My mate Akram has been staying with me all this week We have had a good time being productive in the house and catching up.
Today he is leaving, at about lunchtime.

So what does he do?

At breakfast today he asks me if I can make anything for his kids. He has 4, that is FOUR, of them. I have 2 hours, TWO, to make 4 of something that his children will like back home in Jordan.

I have an idea, but what would you do?

A Skittle game. They can play against each other.

A base board.
A piece of chain for the striker to swing on, a length of 3/4" dowel and nine pins.

A bag of wood shavings for their Gerbil.
If they haven't got a Gerbil....tell them to buy one.

Good ideas, all, thank you. I would have made tops but I no longer have my lathe.

I decided to make some magic propellers.

They are a bit rough and ready, but we ran out of time. I hope his kids like them. And I hope they don't use them for poking each other in the eye!

Bit late on this one but making Bullroarers is a great one for kids. You can make one in a few minutes with the most basic of tools from green timber even and they love them. Well worth a punt, ten minutes work with a sharp billhook, a mallet and a drill to attach the string and you're off. Not long enough making time to bore youngish kids and you can keep them involved while keeping them away from sharp edges. Just make sure you make small one for little arms.
Not sure what a Bullroarer is? Course you do, You've seen Crocodile Dundee haven't you? :D

4 sheets of 3 or 4mm ply approx A4 size

Download and print relevant picture depending on child - footballer or ballet dancer etc

Stick on ply

Cut into random bits on bandsaw or scrollsaw - finer cut. No need to do interlocking bits if time is a constraint. More bits for older children.

Just a thought!!!
