What type of wood is this?

Hi,

Anyone any idea what type of wood this is? My idea is mahogany but as a newbie I maybe way off!

If it helps the wood came from a an old (victorian?) window frame a mate had in a skip.

Could be lots of things. but Its something from the mahogany family, sapele, meranti or mabye iroko. Its quite hard to tell

Try taking your pictures from a bit further away it may be able to focus then.

My money is on it being Meranti.

If window frame then I say Meranti. Pictures are too out to tell.
