Hello All,

I have attached a picture of around 100 year old flooring I have in my bathroom.(top, wood with varnish(looks modern) and bottom is the underside of the wood) I have two questions:

Does anyone know what type of wood it is?

What would be the best type of wax/varnish should I use for this wood when it is in a bathroom. I need to swap over two lengths but the wood seems to have stood upto water in the bathroom for a 100 years so far!

Thanks everyone.

From the look of the pictures i would say it is softwood (pine) floorboards.

as for a finish to last that long, im not really sure but i can tell you that i installed a solid oak floor in my bathroom 3 years ago and just used a strong polyurethane varnish on it (about 5 coats all in all) and its still great but obviously i go over my floor once a year to lightly sand and apply another coat of varnish to keep up the look.
