I can only imagine how dirty that must look halfway through sanding, all that graphite!! Great idea and fascinating appearance too.

I tried making a pen from coloured pencil crayons stuck together and it was horrible. Really scruffy looking and I ended up just turning it off and recovering the tubes. Only paid a quid for 30 pencils so nothing lost but a lot of CA and time.

You would think that the colour from the graphite would make a mess of the wood? Maybe you have to sand each pencil carefully! :shock:

It seems he uses an automated lathe to cut the vase shape not a manual one so as far as sanding goes it is probably minimal.

The only pencils I have are from Ikea and Screwfix ,so all I can make is a dish about 3 inches deep .

I tried a ring for the other half made from coloured pencils.

I used Wilko own brand pencils out of cheapness. I think the quality of the pencils would make some difference to the finished article.
The wood was pretty poor, and the leads kept coming loose.

Still, heres the prototype for anyone interested....
