Hi Guys
I need someones help if possible, I need to produce a hexagonal tabletop where the distance between opposite parallel sides measure 52 inchs , is there a formula to know what size circle to begin with, as I use the radius arc method to draw them out, my guess is that it would be 70 something inchs between points or angles/circumference.

Hexagon Diagram, 6 sided polygon with R = circumradius, r = inradius and a = side length

polygon_06_hexagon.gif

r = inradius (apothem)
R = circumradius
a = side length
n = number of sides
x = interior angle
y = exterior angle
A = area
P = perimeter
π = pi = 3.14159 ...
√ = square root

a = 762.102 cm
r = 660 cm
R = 762.102 cm
A = 1508960 cm2
P = 4572.61 cm
x = 120°
y = 60°

simples :shock:

Also remember a hex section is just two right angled triangles.

a² + b² = c²

a = side
b = base
c = hypotenuse.

Pythagoras' Theorem? if my memory serves me well, something like, the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the two adjacent sides.

Edit: Thanks for the link to the calculator Nev
