I finally just bought a new extractor from Axminster (long needed) for chip removal for my joiner and thicknesser.

If I need to get a hose for it locally (B&Q or otherwise), what type of hose would I ask for? I only need 2 meters as I have a small hobby size shed (12'x10').

I know Axminster has specified "Extractor Hose" but I am hoping to pick something up locally (I don't get free shipping with Axminster)

Thanks

Extractor hose is a frightfull price, especially if it's the big 4" or larger stuff. B&Q probably don't have it but you could try a specialist hose supplier.

Charnwood is about the cheapest and has most of the sizes available up to 150mm. If you just want shop vac type hose contact Earlex - they were very helpful with me and were quite cheap.

If it's 4 inch hose we're talking about then tumble dryer hose is the correct size, but it won't last if it's dragged along the floor, but it is cheap!

Thanks!

Im still a little green..Do you have links to the two (I tried Googling). If they ship to the Republic, I will definately take a look.

I saw some Charnwood hose on eBay and it seemed to be quite a bit more then Axminster (Plus the shipping was through the roof)

I would try a local engineers supplier or heating and ventilation supplier as these usually carry quite a range of flexible hoses. Just ask them to show you what they carry bearing in mind you don't want something to rigid or heavy. In the past I have used 4" hose normally used for drier venting, its a little lightweight but if you're stuck it does a job.

Its going to receive only weekend use and won't be dragged around really. Would tumble dryer hose collapse though - I only have a wall mounted AWDE5002
ebay link

I used the drier hose with a electrabekham h 260 and it didn't collapse, dragging on the floor was more of a problem but with a 2 metre length you should be ok, as I say have a look locally you might be surprised and get fixed up.

I meant it worked for me Woody, but there are different qualities of T/D hose available.

I've got odd bits on ebay over the years but the only item I found with a quick search is here

I used to use tumble drier hose when I first started out and it does work and does not collapse but will shorten under suction from your dust collector.
It is intolerant of being stepped on or tripped over!! believe me I've done it.

While we are talking extraction, I have a Record RSDE2 extractor connected to my Elektra Bekum ts250 table saw with 100mm hose that came with the extractor.

The connector on the saw also takes 63mm hose my question is have I got it set up the best way or would it be better with 63mm hose ?

Got a response from this local outfit:

Yes that hose would be suitable for use

Bigger hose has lees frictional losses so you have the set up OK now.

I was wondering about that...I was figuring that moving to a smaller hose right away would increase air pressure and be better (and cheaper, etc). But it makes sense with a thicknesser that the less chance of blockage, the better in the long run.

The link for Charnwood hose is:
http://www.charnwood.net/CatList.jsp?cat=10

and the link for Earlex is:
http://www.earlex.co.uk/html/wdacc_html/wdacc14.htm

Hope you get sorted.

Thanks for those!! Unfortunately 2m of the 100mm hose is £18 (competitive) but ists £20 to ship it (ouch)

Bookmarked the site though as they may be better on heavy machinery

Cheers!

For 4" extractor hose try Record Power.

They supply a see through hose that is strong and handly for spotting any blockages.

They have stockists in Ireland.

Try their dealer search feature on their website to find the nearest stockist to you...

I agree with the above. I have the record power see through copper coiled hose, 4 inch. It works very well and the contents can be seen.
