Hi folks,

I have a Trend CRT MK3 router table up against a wall, and I'm trying to work out how to get it hooked up to my (100mm) dust extractor.

It has a 57mm (2.25") internal diameter port pointed at the wall, and I'm worried that the Trend accessories (T30/22 or CRT/4) won't fit with the wall in the way. I don't think I can just bodge something on with tape, as I think I'll need to be able to remove it if I want the fence far back.

I've done a bit of searching round, but haven't found much that might fit. The best I've come up with is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Silicon ... 0890278541 which claims its 48mm 90 degree pipe has a 57mm outside diameter, so if I can cut one of the legs shorter then that seems possible.

But I wonder if anyone has already found a better option, please?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Box the router table in and put one of these on the back/side or wherever you want: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-du ... 0mm-502568 put a door on the box to allow access to the router, you will need to put an adjustable air inlet and a cable outlet, something like this: http://www.axminster.co.uk/ujk-technolo ... box-502538

If its clearance at the back of the router table that concerns you, box in the back of the fence and put the outlet on the end, I can't remember the last time I had my fence back behind the bit more than 20mm.

Ah, I'd seen those adapters a couple of times, but now I think I finally understand how they're meant to work! But if I'm right, then you are meant to connect the top part to the back of the fence, which is exactly what I'm having problems doing :)

I was actually planning on using the supplied router dust extraction collar for under-table extraction, but a box sounds like it would be better. But maybe I'll put that project on hold, as I currently seem to be spending all my time making a workshop to woodwork in, rather than actually wood working, at the moment ;-)

Even with the fence fully forwards, I can't fit the hose+adapter I use for the sander into the port. But perhaps the connector on the T30/22 is short enough, and the hose flexible enough, that it will go in and curve enough to fit?

Cut the hood to fit a 62 mm 90 degree elbow. use epoxy or no more nails to hold it in. then use a 62 to 100 mm adaptor. Dont get bogged down with what is supplied, alter it to fit your needs.

I've altered all of my machines ports to 62 mm. easy peasy.

That adaptor covers a lot of base's.

As I said above which I think you did not understand, box in the back of the fence and take the dust extraction out the end of the box, so the hose is over the side of the table, with one of the above adaptors you can connect your fence extract and under table dust collection to your 100mm extractor.

Have a look at the Incra wonder fence for the idea: http://www.incra.com/router_table_fence ... fence.html

Aha, I see what you mean now!

I'm a little nervous about making irreversible changes to the dust port module as sunnybob suggests, but replacing it with a small wooden box with a dust port on the side (or maybe top) sounds doable.

It hadn't occurred to me that the adapter might also fit onto a bandsaw's dust port. Do you have anything clever to hold the top hose in place?

Thanks

Not at the moment, it just goes over the top of the casing and hangs down by the blade, but I plan to fix it into a plastic plumbing bend and fix it to the bearing carrier.

Why? its a dust port. If the machine is still under warranty and you have to return it, just keep the dust port.
If its not under warranty, you have absolutely nothing to lose and efficiency and convenience to gain.
I've enlarged the thicknesser dust port, and the bobbin sander and the belt sander, and actually reduced the bandsaw hole. Now, one hose fits all.

Why?

In case I change my mind!

But also, I think a wooden replacement will be just as easy to make, as I won't have to worry about interfacing with pieces that are the wrong shape.

I would make it out of 10mm perspex set screwed together, make a new fence outlet, perspex is a very versatile material, a 3mm hole will accept a 4mm set screw without tapping, shape your outlet to suite, I did this for my Table saw crown guard:
