My Tormek makes a very slow periodic sound: 'whung',....silence....,'whung'. When I took off the leather wheel to look at the motor, it became clear the motor is moving up and down a little bit in a periodic motion. It sort of makes very small jumps.

Should I be worried and/or is there something I can do about it?

Regards,

Duncan

Is it at a once per revolution of the wheel (clean the driven rim) or if much slower than that see if a light spring on the motor body will damp the oscillation adequately.
I don't think it is that serious but satisfying to sort out.

As Bob said it could well be the drive wheel that was all it was with mine.

what often happens if not used for a long time is the drive shaft that rest on the rubber drive wheel makes a small indent and as the wheel turns it knocks
on this indent
cleaning the wheel should do the trick

The motor on my Tormek, which is an adaptation of their old drill-powered version, swings up and down like a drunken duck, even though it has a helper spring. Have wondered about trueing up the rubber wheel with a scraper, but never got round tuit.
