I came across this whilst doing some research, its from the Hampshire Advertiser June 1877

I had a local paper from the late '50s in which there was a case where someone had tried to rob a chip shop - he shook a pepper pot in the girl's face, but was chased off empty handed by another customer. He was gaoled for fourteen years.
