Now all my wood has been sorted I have now managed to get and start turning and finishing one item from the end of last year.

Well except for the little pot with the slots in it the others I have started turning but am working on all three at the moment The one with slots I have now done some pyrography on it just to get a textured surface tomorrow hope to start adding colour. The next piece the one with the slots has been turned and hollowed green and is now drying in the airing cupboard as an experiment and the large wide rimmed bowl is all turned except the foot and has a sander sealer applied ready for painting that hopefully will be tomorrow as well.
Just good to be able to get and do some turning.

I really like what you have done with your first one Derek and I like the look of your third one, but I'm not sure about your second one I think that I need to see a few more pictures of it from different angles or see it off the lathe as I don't think its as pleasing to the eye as the other two. I think it could end up in the bin as it does not seem to be working but will have to wait for at least another month to see what it does.
The first one may even end up in there as well if it does not work as there is still things to be done to it

Already the guy is into developing new designs and heading for flashing the results of using his new toys by the looks of it, does he never rest?

Some of us can't even manage to clear up the mundane chores and the 'can you just' bits that surfaced while we were being instructed to be sociable during the recent events.

Thank you Chas. Have you noticed that the wood is quite plain so it just has to have some sort of decoration on it. I have a few ideas still to play with when these are finished I may even start them before then.

Yesterday was a wash out needed to clean the shed when my trusty dyson made funny noises and bellowed out smoke so a new shop vac was purchased a tub type one. This had to be done as to allow any dust to be got rid of before today's work.
Well managed to get more done now that the workshop is clean I can start painting. The slotted one has now been sealed and a coat of copper on the inside did not know how this would look as this is the first time using this product, I am pretty pleased so far still needs another coat. It looks more like gold in the picture but in the hand it does look like copper.

I also managed to mask and get the first layer of paint onto the wide rimmed bowl tomorrow will start to see the first real colour on it.

More done to the wide rimmed platter and yes it does look a little like someone else's work at this stage but I can guarantee nothing like his.

Ohhh goody, Air Brushes at two paces

The wide rim bowl now has some of the detail added but still more to do, this still could end up being sanded down and restarted but will have to see how it goes.

The small pot now has some copper paint on the inside and a coat of ebonising spray on the outside still more colour to be added to this as well.

The question is how do you spray the outside without getting over spray all over the copper inside well the answer is easier than you may think "use a balloon".

As for the third item which has all the slots this is still being experimented on but should have some more on that in a couple of days as I need some clothes pegs for that. All will become clear later.

If at first you don't get it right cheat.

One of the three pieces I started at the beginning of this post decided that it did not want to do as expected so with the aid of some wooden cloths pegs(well at £1 for 60 not problem)

And hopefully problem solved I did have to put the piece into a bucket and pour boiling water over it to wet it right through all the fins. This did not take long as they are about 1/8" thick and cut to 7/8" deep. Now back in the airing cupboard and fingers crossed will leave it either in there or hide it somewhere else to dry out.

Got that problem pegged, now if only you could glue the rib contact points together without fixing the pegs you would be on a winner (should have used polythene around the pegs)

A quick squirt with Thin CA as soon as you remove the wedges maybe?

The main problem is that the wood is soaking wet and not take glue that well. I should think that once dry I may be able to squeeze some in. This is purely an experiment.

Even if there is a small gap between the points that are close will not really matter will just have to wait and see

Thank you Stewart as you have seen the one that I was painting is now finished so is the slotted one which I need to take final photo's of and the other is still drying, I sneaked that one into the airing cupboard again
