Can anyone help who knows about exterior doors, please?

I've just measured up a very rotten door which needs replacing and it's 36" wide (well 1/4" short of) by 78" high. Looking at Jewson's & Wicke's etc. this seems to be a non standard size as 36" doors all seem to be 82" high (3' by 6' 10").

Would I be able to trim the additional 4" from the top and bottom of an engineered door to fit? Or would this need to be a special order item. I can't see this being possible with a Mortice and Tenon door.

As there is some slight rot to the threshold and very bottom of the frame sides, might it be better getting a pre-hung door-set, or is it very unlikely for this to fit at all, unless made to measure?

Thanks

They were usually 2'6" x 6'6", 2'9" x 6'6", or 2'8" x 6'8" AFAIK. I think you're going to have to bite the bullet on that one. uPVC? I'll wash my mouth out with soapy water. It might be cheaper though, if you have to do the lot.

A M2M timber door will be extortionate money. I'd personally bite the bullet and get a composite door. If you were more local I could get you a composite on my trade account for around £500.

Thanks for the replies guys :D It's another voluntary job for the church so they'll have to bite the bullet.

Thanks for the offer MMUK, I was thinking some sort of plastic or whatever. Knowing it won't be looked after it'll need to last a long time with little care.

It might be worth checking in architectural salvage places for a reclaimed door in the right size?

Another good idea, thanks Andy. (Though being exclusively motorcycle-bound, I'm not quite sure how I'd get it back :?: ).

Never mind a 6 foot door, this guy didn't let a 12 feet* load stop him motorcycling :D
