Faffing around in the workshop and managed to get a sterling board splinter under my thumb nail

It didn't hurt till I started poking it

It's throbbing like mad now though

Think I'll survive ;)

Excellent photos!

A medicinal Scotch (or maybe several) is mandatory for this type of injury.
Funny you should say that. I held off from taking paracetamol so I could have a few tonight :) Thanks for the humour/support guys ;)
I do find it slightly odd the first thing I thought of was to take a picture instead of just pulling it out. I snapped more of the bloody thing off reaching to get the phone out my pocket !

Ouch, nothing worse than splinters up the nail.

It must have been the week for it. I had a splinter around that size go in just at the top of my little finger and had nothing to grab to get it out. My wife enjoyed digging it out later that day. The following morning i had to go to have stitches in my thumb when i drove my 1 inch chisel straight into the side of it.

Didn't think to get photos, and still strapped up.

Waiting for number 3 if superstitious.

Cheers

Nick

I had a softwood splinter around the same area this week. Not as much blood but I can kind of understand your pain. Luckily after a day it decided to push it's own way out and I managed to get enough purchase on it to pull the bugger out.

My work mates kid was around and I went over to show him how far it had gone in. It had been about 20 minutes since I pulled the big bit out then I noticed there was still a fairly largish slither left behind. I was thinking 20 minutes is a long time for it to be moist and start expanding. Needless to say,I was relieved it came out fairly painlessly.
Now some time has passed I feel I can share a bit more info on how it happened.
I shoved my finger nail in the joint, like this-

To try and push it up, that's when the sadness happened :) I think I may have swore, alot. Alcohol definitely seems to be helping numb......everything ;)
I was still pretty happy to have got as far as I did with the project I'm doing

It's gonna hopefully perform as a propigator when it's finished
