I’ve never had this weird ‘fault’ before WhenI makea post, usingIE, the submitted post shows words joined together hereand there, the spaces vanishing.I have even typed the postin MS Word, and madeany necessary corrections, for cutand paste. But even that comes up with this same fault. The screen displayis jumpingabout like crazy, andIE spell-checkisn’t showingany necessary corrections.Isit my end? Orisit the site? :?For sure,I KNOWit was correct before posting, now lookatit.

I go to bring in my paper, and what do I see?
A Virgin service van, at the cable-box on the pavement. I wonder????

Did you spill your whisky on the keyboard?

As you say "When I make a post, using I.E," I take it you tried another Browser to post the same message and it was OK?

I hope thatwasn't meant in an unfriendly way CHJ. Fact is , I drink little alcohol these dayss and certainly Iwas never so bad that I drank the stuff at 8.24 in the morning. I have only one browser on my machine and since dumping the others most previous problems I had disappered. As I hadn't come across that particular problem before, I wondered ifit was a virus. My Ant-Virus found nothing. It appearsit might have been the engineer. We'll see when I make this post. I'm sorry if I upset you by suspecting the site.It won't happen again. 8)

Although the problem is still there.
I'll try one or two exploratory posts on other Fora, and see if the same fault persists.

The only way I know of of determining if it is the browser not interpreting you keyboard inputs correctly or the basic communication with UKW is to use another browser such as Chrome as a temp. comparison measure.

Chas.,

I tried a number of posts on various other fora (Not just woodwork based sites; although that hardly matters I guess. ) I haven't had that problem with any of them. The 'interferer' from Virgin has gone now, so I dunno. :duno:

Maybe this will work okay!

So now an edit in IE... I wonder what this will throw up...

Rest assured Chrispy, I make most of my posts in Microsoft Word, which checks mistakes like missingspaces. So apartfrom words like pear and pair and pare, getting through the checker, I know there won't be any typos. It looks likesomething had gone haywire with IE, and having reinstalled it's gone away I hope!

Hmmmm... Apprently not.
So this is happening with IE, on UKW and nowhere else.

Nothing about which can I do, as Yoda might say.

Post copied to Word. Picks up missing spaces and corrected. Double checked, Posting as follows.

Looks okay atm.

I cannot comment on the lack of spaces between words, but I have in the past had issues with screen displays jumping up and down all the time. Turned out to be the mouse - solution was to disconnect the mouse, delete the mouse drivers, reconnect the mouse and let it find its own drivers to download.

Have you re-booted your machine since the problems occurred?

I'm only musing that there may be a problem with the codes generated by your keyboard driver and the browser editor.

Winword may be adding different codes for spaces (   non-breaking space for instance) than the 'norm' for a plain text editor and this is causing an iterpretation error somewhere.

What does the text look like in Notepad.

I found the problem. I didn't understand what was going on, but I followed some advice, and it did the trick. So I.E. was updated, and then consigned to the unused programs list. I going to give Chrome a chance.

Thanks for the advice gents; even the tongue-in-cheek sort!

Incidentally, I do like a Good Single Malt now and again, but normally my tipple is rum... 100 proof wherever possible.

:D

I like chrome as it spell checks as you go.

Mick

So does I.E. and Mozilla Mick. I think they all do in fact, but the problem I was having was; after double-checking and submitting the post, there were spaces missing in the finished post.

Spell-checkers are okay until it comes to a word that is correctly spelled, but used in the wrong context. I.e., there and their. The checker won't pick up the word unless it's spelled incorrectly.

Anyhow it's gone away now, so a lot of fudging with programs solved it! :D
