Last night I confronted a large group of youths (about 30) after several snowballs were thrown at my living room window, I grabbed one, and because of the "red mist" I very nearly gave him a slap, I am not proud of this incident, I should not have responded as I did. In the past we have called the police (not only snowballs have been thrown at our windows, we get mud, stones, rotten fruit and also sachets of ketchup from a nearby fish and chip shop.

I will go to the police station today, but I can guarantee the advice I will be given is, "do not go out to these youths, if you touch anyone of them and they are under 16 years old, you can be charged with assaulting a minor", what the hell does a law abiding citizen do?

We live close to a hill where lots of kids go sledging, so tonight I suspect will be the same as last night, ie a large number of kids passing our door.

A very worried Baldhead.

You don't say which area of the country you live in but if it's the NorthEast ....

Police threaten to arrest people throwing snowballs
- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstop ... balls.html

“Likewise, if anyone throws snowballs at person’s homes or at people who do not want to be involved in the snow games, they could be arrested and it will be classed as anti-social behaviour.”

That's very true Robbo, a police officer was on TV saying just that, from Durham Police, I live in Northumberland and today I was waiting at a T junction and watched 2 children throwing snowballs at cars driving into town, stood next to them was an adult who looked old enough to be there father!

We all can only be pushed so far.

A bunch of youths had for run kicked our entry uPVC door and cracked it then a few nights later they did it while I was in and broken the window. I looked out window and saw a large group, shouting and ran out to them. One decided to ran at me shouting "im not scared of", before he got to "you" I had hit him with what I happened to be using, a hammer. His mate picked him up and they buggered off. My partner at the time was on the phone to the police, thanks babe... Anyhow they came, I fessed up, they taken the hammer (cheap one lucky enough) and I had them helping be board the window. Nothing came of it. It wasn't a nice area and im no longer with that women or live around there, never will again.

If you shout at them but do nothing they tend to do it more but you may find, now you have shown your willing to touch them, that group at least may leave you alone.

As a disclaimer I am not advising doing anything illegal. Police are generally useless when it comes to youths though. In fact I have a couple of stories thats taken all my faith out of the police.
