Hello,

I’m looking to buy a sliding mitre saw and want one that will last and be accurate. I like solid well made tools that do the basics very well and don’t have too much plastic or fiddly bits. The makita saws seem to fit that bill. So I’m trying to decide whether to get the :

LS1013L 260mm – Which seems to be a tried and tested model? Most people say it’s very accurate. Has two guide bars instead four, less bells and whistles a bit noisier, lower fence but maybe simpler is better? How much of an issue is this low fence?

Or

LS1016L 260mm – Larger capacity, not as noisy, nice high fence more bells and whistles. But not great reviews on www.amazon.com , none on axminster.com and quite a few significant reductions around the place making me think all the bells and whistles might mean a botch job.

All advice appreciated , Cheers

I have an older ls1013, its out of action atm but thats due to two accidents rather than build quality. I have found it quieter than all the cheaper brands that I have used. The fence is an interesting issue, my saw and the two I've had at work (different brands) have suffered with a distorted fence over time - if you stick a straight edge across them you will see the middle bows backwards towards the saw head (not just the bit thats sposed to! :) ). Mine wasnt spot on accurate but it needs fettleing, others on here have said theirs were pretty good.

Take that for what its worth, I'm not a makita fan by any means but I do like this saw and miss it (must fix it).

I've had a Makita LS1013 for 10+years ,never had any problems with it and it's used most days on and off site ,i borrowed my mates Dewalt ,only kept it for 2 days and sent it back , he has since got rid and bought a Ls1013 .

Cracking deals to be had here: http://www.fastfix.co.uk/makita/Slide_C ... _Saws.html

£429.00 with a laser or £399.00 without, Including next day delivery ..................BARGAIN !!!!!

I'm on my 2nd one in 18 years, a fantastic machine even better at these prices
Go for the older version ( LS1013 ) as its has a better build quality, due to being manufactured in Japan, rather than China for the newer versions

This is a good machine for on site work as its about half the weight of the LS1013
Used one for about 3 years when I hurt my back working in London humping a elu flip saw back to the van !

I too have the LS1013, the only problem I have is the lever to lock the table angle indent has lost it's captive washer so just falls out.

Other than that a great saw. Quite heavy though.
