Hi All

Still having some issues trying to view plans in sketchup from the warehouse. When I open them I just get a picture of the finished article but nothing else, how do you view the breakdown of the individual wood pieces for the dimensions etc?

I must be doing something wrong but cant see how I get anything other than a picture of the finished article.

Anyone able to advise?

thanks

Colin

You either need to download a cut list plugin, or you need to layout the cut list yourself. Check the tabs across the top of the window though to see if there are different scenes (views). Someone may have already created a view with a layout

Damn it, still cant get it. Ive downloaded the cutlist plugin and I open a workbench sketchup and then gotot extensions and cutlist then it create a list of materials but they are all 6" in size etc rather than for the top piece being 48".

Stupid program lol

best sketchup help I can give is pencil, paper, eraser, ruler. Worked for the last 1000 years.

Watch Jay Bates' videos on sketchup. He goes pretty fast in terms of making the model, but shows you how to copy it and split it apart to make a cut list

thanks Sunnybob but I only want sketchup to use other peoples plans to build what they have made not make up my own sketchup design, im not that good :)

Thanks Matt, I will have a butchers and see where im going wrong.

Models from the 3D Warehouse are not vetted. Anyone can upload any SketchUp file. That means that the workbench model you downloaded may not actually make a useful plan. In fact, most of the content on the 3D Warehouse isn't intended to be used as a plan for building. This is not the fault of SketchUp. It is the fault of the author of the model. Or it's due to the fact that they never had a plan in mind in the first place.

Very likely you can use the model as a basis to create a plan, though. If you share the link to the model in the 3D Warehouse, someone who is more knowledgeable about SketchUp can look at it and tell you what you'll need to do to get a usable cut list.
