Good morning

I would like to share with you my sharpening method

I don't use hand tools so much and I don't like to spend long time on the sharpening stones (I have all the "army" from 600 to 8000).

The sanding paper idea is not new, I go up to #600 and for me it's more than enough but you can go with higher numbers.

To save some time, you can change the sanding belt up to #240

Hi Niki,
I confess that sometimes I freehand sharpen like this on my large fixed belt sander, but it really isn't good practice, mainly for 3 reasons:
1/ the chisels can overheat and then the edges just crumble
2/ it wears the chisel very quickly
3/ with practice its quicker on a stone.

Just my thoughts. Mind you if you are cleaning up an old chisel its a good way.
