Well, Guys and Girls it time again for SS. Please read the rules below before submitting your names and details, and please remember that it's a lot of fun.

Secret Santa Rules

It’s that time again folks. On the basis of the uptake and success of last year’s event I presume people are going to want to do it again.

For those new to the forum, the idea is that you enter your name into the random draw and everyone is allocated the name of another entrant. You send a hand tool gift of your choosing and receive one back from someone else. That’s it, simply really. I'm happy to administrate proceedings again and suggest we adopt the rules from last year, which are as follows;

1. If you wish to participate, PM me, your name forum handle and postal address I will not disclose this to anyone other than your allocated Santa.

2. Closing date for names to be with me is 10th November. You will be informed of your SS within a week.

3. There is no upper or lower value limit - you should give something that you would be happy to receive yourself.

4. Gifts can be shop-made, purchased, something you already own; whichever suits you best, provided it is hand tool related. Personally I think we will get most satisfaction out of this by going with shop-made items if you can, but its by no means compulsory.

5. Once I have all the names I will allocate a Santa to each of the participants in a random draw.

6. Once the list is compiled I will PM the name and address of the person you are allocated to send a gift to, back to you.

7. You are responsible for organising (and paying for) the postage of the gift to arrive in time.

8. SS gifts should be sent no later than 10th December to allow for delivery before Christmas.

9. If for whatever reason you need to drop out, let me know as soon as you can so I can try and rearrange the list.

10. Whether you choose to remain anonymous to the receiver is entirely up to you - last year some did and some didn't.

Please post any queries or things I forgot in this thread. If anyone has suggestions of things to improve or change from last year please let me know.

Mod Edit:- Link to 2013 gift receipts for information.

I wonder about the timing of this.

6 weeks to decide whether to take part is too long. Certainly too long to get quick replies.
3-4 weeks to research your recipient, decide what to make and make it is a bit tight for anyone with a busy life.

Wrong way round !

(But count me in)

i'm in as long as irelands not to awkward to post to! any other irish member interested?? or other eu countries.
regards richard

Due to some valid comments from participant of SS I have decided to make a slight rule change.

The list will now close at the end of October.
Participants will be informed within 3 days of the closing date.
All gifts to be in the post by 15th December.

This will give participants longer to research and make their gifts.

Hope this helps all, and doesn't inconvenience anyone.

Thanks for that. I too hope that iit doesm't inconvenience anyone. And that the tighter deadline gets more people joining. It was my most exciting parcel last year, and so much nicer to be looking at all those lovely tools without feeling left out ! You know you'd rather be showing off your present on UKW than making small talk with the rellies ...

Is there a thread of the types of gifts from previous years. I am tempted to join in, but would like an idea of what might be expected, not sure my woodworking skills are up to building stuff for others (my family seems to like my builds though).

PM sent. I'm in.

To those who are intimidated by the quality of the entrants, all of my SS gifts have been bought. So it's totally possible to join in. This is a highlight of the year for me, been looking forward to it for a while.

BTW, I'll happily post to Ireland (or anywhere really).

I have decided to join the fun.

Now, if someone would like to send me a nice little drawer with an Iroko front and oak sides/back with half-blind dovetails at the front and through dovetails at the back I would be able to finish my little table.
