Well I tried as suggested here, new blade one of the festool extra stable cut ones, and put pendulum on full.
Not perfect but probably at least half less blade wonder so I'm fairly happy. That was with a fence too.
Think a circular saw would probably be the next most sensible solution, but it's good enough for me at the moment.
