After much-needed research, I am decided on building a rotary phase converter to allow me run my dual motor planer thicknesser and allow me add 3 phase machines in the future.

Any advice on how to proceed with the build in terms of plans, sources for components (capacitors and switches etc?) Will have my electrician round to replace the CBs to C rated and I am on the lookout for a used 3 phase 440 volt >8 HP motor. I will never run two machines at once, other than the two motors on my thicknesser.

Hello
Sorry I am no help to you on advice for a RPC build.
It sounds strange to me that you are looking for a massive 8hp machine without chip extraction.
In that scenario I suspect you would be shoveling chips more often than actually using the machine.

I suspect it could be as cheap to get two Chinese VFD's instead of sourcing parts for a RPC and be done with it, unless you need something that large, and have equipment to move stuff about.
