So part of the payment for my stall at the lo Al scout group Christmas fair is a donation to their raffle, I have some sticks of laurel (I think) so decided to use a few and make a set of mini tree decorations, the wood it still quite green so I gave it a coat of linseed oil instead of using wax, I'm pretty pleased with them, now to find a box to present them in.

stig.......how do u get time to go too work......?
as always interesting.....
I work part time split shift, I open school at 7am and work until 12, I live on site so I'm usually eating my lunch by 12:15, spend a couple hours with the furbabies then a few hours in the makerspace intil I got back to work at 17:30 for an hour to check on the cleaners and lock up at 18:30, in the school holidays I work 7:00 to 13:00 so I don't have to go back later.

A productive day was had today, first a set of 9 tree decorations for a family member who asked for them, all made from pallet wood, sanded to 240 and left unfinished so they can be painted

Once they were done I decided to make a set of 4 for SWMBO as she really liked the chestnut burr ones I made for a colleagues birthday, not sure what the wood is, I'll refer to my supplier @Lefley who kindly sent the 2 pieces to me earlier this year, they are sanded to 400 followed by abrasive paste then finished with hard wax

After to long finally got out to the lathe. Friend at work is leaving so I've made them this Okoume dish/shallow bowl.
It was meant to be a fruit bowl but the edge got a little thin and a chunk decided to fly off 😞 so as they say the wood decides the final shape 🤣.

24 small tree decorations made from (I think) Laurel, the wood is still fairly green as it was only cut a few months ago so it cut very cleanly, sanding it with some 320 dried the surface very quickly and allowed me to get a good coat of wax melted into it, really like how they turned out just wish I jad some better thread to hand them with.

I think the threads look like candy sticks so they'll blend right in

Well today was a great day (even though I got carried away and forgot to go back to work until way after 6 )
Picked up a stick of Laurel and rounded it between centres with a tenon at each end then cut it in half, had no plan what I was going to make, I have classic fm on whilst in the makerspace and they had a christmassy piece of music on and before I knew it I had turned most of the outer shape of a bell, I liked the look so proceeded to hollow it and finish the inside up to 350grit and a coat of wax before completing the outside and then mounting on a jam chuck to sand and finish, decided to make a handle and clapper from some wood I have from removing the old coat rack outside the classrooms, I drilled a tiny hole in the handle and shoved the thread into it and wedged it in with a tiny sliver of wood, threaded it through the bell and tied it to the clapper, like it so much I made a 2nd one, the two of them took about 2 hours I guess
