I remember seeing a chap catch his thumb on a circular saw blade. The blade had only a few big teeth and his thumb bone caught and jammed the blade preventing it from cutting through the bone. That would have been bad enough except that when he pulled away in shock he stripped all the flesh off the bone.

At college we teach one of the first year HND modules just on wood machining to ensure that the students still have all their digits for the second year.
The machine shop technicians are fantastic in both their support in helping the students and for their firmness in preventing students from starting a job that may be dangerous.

Unofrtunately we don't offer the modules in isolation for people who don't want to do the whole HND.
