open office

Does anyone know if Open office is compatible with Microsoft Office? My daughter has just bought a laptop but the school she works at use Microsoft and she sometimes brings home work.

Yes it is, you can open and save documents in MS Office formats from Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

A word of warning though (no pun intended :roll: ), you could end up with formatting issues opening files saved in open office in microsoft office applications. They are the exception rather than the rule, but they do happen from time to time. I once lost a 10 page report to that little issue... :evil:

Thanks for the replies. I've told my daughter that the school should install Microsoft as she only needs it for their benefit so she is planning to do that after her hols.

If the microsoft work is all for a school the licensing for Microsoft products is peanuts compared to the list price.
