Bummer! in my haste today I managed to feed my steel rule through my planer! Luckily the machine is ok but the blades now have a couple of chips out of them! i did the usual and offset the blades so I could finish the job but they now need grinding. Bah! Does anyone know if there is a re grinding service in my neck of the woods? No need to tell me.....more haste less speed!

I have a set off a Startrite SD300 machine (12") you can have if there any good for your machine - no charge. They are newly sharpened and not used since having been reground once. I upgraded to a 16" machine so they are just sat in the shelf gathering dust.

Hi Alan, The place that you use for your saw blades should be able to do them for you.

Doug at Cutting Solutions should be able to send you a spare set to be running with whilst the originals are off being ground.

Got it sorted I just ordered a new set from Axminster £18 I assumed they would be much more expensive! Probably not much more than a re-grind. Thanks for the help guys.

Hi Deema

Would those blade you have be a two blade machine SD310 or the I think newer 3 blade machine?
Do they have two slots in each blade for the screw heads to regulate the height?
If so could I arrange some beer tokens for them.
Would be great to have a spare set as mine are getting a bit narrow. Please PM me.
Danny

Surely you have sharpened planer blades in the last 3 years of business, if not how have you managed?

Hang on, you've all missed the important question.

How on earth did your steel rule come to be in a position to go through the thicknesser? :? :? :?

Your right Bob, I have had them sharpened in the past but the local company has gone out of business. They were cheap too.
  I did wonder if anyone was going to ask about the rule going through the planer? OK, here is the explanation. I have/had a Veritas hook rule which I had been using while working on the thicknesser and I had placed it on the bed of the planer while i fed the wood through the thicknesser. A little later I wanted to plane some timber and without looking  placed the timber on the planer bed and started feeding it......the rule was under the timber which got fed into the blades! .......At least it wasn't my finger this time.
