Myford in Administration

A friend tried to order some parts from Myfords today to be told there were in Administration and could only sell by pick up only and by cash or cheque!
Another great British Manufacturer down the pan - sad.

That really is sad. Especially to the owner of a Mystro and a Super 7. Looks like the S7 will have to look after metal parts of its woody friend.

About the only positive thing is that there are so many solidly built Myfords of all sorts out there that the name will survive for many years to come.

Oh for a time machine to go back and assassinate Thatcher before she started murdering UK manufacturing industry.

??????? The thatcher bit... are you serious? I think you mean economic reality my friend, if the business was viable, and did not depend on massive state handouts and was not throttled by outdated union practices, it would survive. Mrs Thatcher just made sure we all stopped being led around by the nose by pineapples like Arthur Scargill, who even now, refuses to give up his posh apartment in the barbican, paid for by the NUM, who are pretty much destitute now... nice socialist principles there Arthur...

Shame about Myford though. But too many of us buying cheap imports or rather better machines from Europe. what can you do?

never used a myford, however I am sure someone will buy them and get them running again.

Frankly I doubt that they will cease to exist, I suspect someone will buy them up.

Was reading Nice Work by David Lodge the other week, had a good quote in it describing the difference between the German and UK manufacturing industries in the 80s, we won the war but they won the peace. Collectively as a nation we let our manufacturing industry slide and the final nail was the emergence of new economies in the east. Shame about Myford

Dang... v. sad to hear that about Myford, old Peter Child (the famous turner) would spin in his grave... ---as it were--- And I've just sold a lovely old long-bed Myford to a mate as well...

...well, that reminded me: As a young chippie on a building site, I once commented on something in the news, and an 'old hand' quietly said to me, "If I were you mate, I'd bear in mind the unspoken rule of building sites: never talk about politics or religion..."

Just heard that RDG Tools have bought up the spares?

Myford advertised a sale starting tomorrow, but looks like there will not be much available - perhaps their bigger stuff - lathes etc?
