I was down Cornwall the other week and walking back to my car a PER O DUA Kenari, I noticed a black bit of what looked like metal hanging down from under the car (near side in middle) about 1 inch, as I do have trouble bending down my wife had a look and said it's always been there.
Well yesterday I got my camera and snapped some pictures, yes I said it looks like it is a cross member come adrift, this morning I managed to get down on the floor and wiggled the bit and to my amassment it was plastic, it seems to be a plastic cover that is 12 inches long and 2 inches wide.
Can not think what it is supposed to do, any idea what it is?
The piece in just under the rear seat but under the car.
Thanks Reg

(homer) I should have googled it. Spent most of my working life repairing cars and had never heard of it #-o thought it was some sort of slang!

Hi Reg

Of course it's plastic - the whole car is, isn't it?  You must get 100s to the gallon from that little dinky car :)

It won't be serious, as said likely to be a protector for fuel pipes or electrics but I'd get it put back if you can. Usually they just clip in for easy removal when the car is being worked on.

It is a funny car, it took me 3 weeks to find the spark plugs then found out it has none.
It was a big drop down from my 4x4 Jeep but after my operation I was told to get rid of my caravan so I ended up with my dinky toy.
It's not to bad, ok who am I falling.
Anyone wont to swop?
Thanks for advise about the cover, will get the wife to crawl under and put it back.

I have always done my own servicing over the last 40+ years but this one has stumped me, I just can not find the spark plugs or the distributor, no HT leads.
I'll look again in the morning.

No distributor. On the top of the head in the middle should be a black cover the width of the block, held down by four bolts. Remove this cover and Voila! there's your spark plugs  You will have to take off the air filter box first though :)

Blimey I have cleaned the black cover loads of times, if only I new it holds the ware bouts to my plugs.
Pray for a dry day tomorrow.
Thanks for the help :ho2 :ho2 :ho2

Must admit that I've noticed more and more of these bits of plastic, as well as bumper-valance trims, hanging down from cars as the years go on. Never used to seem them years ago, but there again cars used to rust through a lot more in the old days. I remember on my Escort Mk 1 you could nearly get the spare wheel out of the bottom of the boot as well as out the lid.

There are lots of plastic bits under modern cars these days, I take them off if they start to drop or if they get in the way when doing an oil change they come off and go in the bin.
