Thank you to the creator and all subsequent contributors to this thread. Its been a really excellent read, by far the best on the 540.
I have been stripping cleaning and repairing a 540 for a couple of years now and very enjoyable its been too. But now I'm down to the last and heavy bits, and could do with a little more guidance if any one can help?
Must the wheelhead carrier be removed vertically from the column, before removing the column from the machine, OR, can I remove the column assembly from the machine, lie it on its back and then lift out the carrier from the upward/open side ?
I think Kaiten said earlier he lifted the carrier out vertically, without a crane. Just wondering if you could say a little more about how you did this ?
If any one knows the weights of the carrier and column that might be useful information too.
